Matthew Hoppe to sign Schalke contract extension until 2023

19-year-old American striker Matthew Hoppe has agreed a contract extension with Bundesliga side Schalke 04, according to Sky Germany.

Hoppe’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season but has signed a new contract until 2023 after ongoing talks over the past couple of weeks.

Speaking on January 23rd, S04 head coach Christian Gross said: “The club management is doing everything they can to ensure that he will continue to play for Schalke in the future. It is really great how he is applying himself and giving 100 percent for Schalke.

“It wouldn’t be a problem for him if Klaas-Jan Huntelaar jumps ahead of him in the pecking order. He can benefit massively from Klaas-Jan and he is determined to keep developing.”

Hoppe has scored five Bundesliga goals in nine games for Schalke this season, including a hat-trick against Hoffenheim to give the Royal Blues their first win of the season.
