Marco Reus: “We made it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves today.”

Speaking after Borussia Dortmund’s 4-2 win against Union Berlin, captain Marco Reus reacted to the the team’s performance after almost allowing Die Eisernen back into the game.

“In terms of points, it was a perfect week,” said Reus. “We had planned three wins for the first English week of the season. Nevertheless, we made it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves today. We were 3-0 up then we conceded another standard goal. We have to work on that as soon as possible.

“We’re glad we won the game but you can’t keep up with it in the long run. We can’t just give up the goals. We have to play more grown up and defend better in set pieces. Another tough games awaits us on Saturday.”

Left-back Raphaël Guerreiro opened the scoring for Borussia Dortmund before Erling Haaland added a second and Union defender Marvin Friedrich scored an own goal to put BVB 3-0 up, but Max Kruse and Andreas Voglsammer brought Union Berlin to within one with nine minutes remaining before Haaland scored his 22nd brace of the season.
