Jesse Marsch: “I’m really pleased to be the head coach of RB Leipzig.”

Speaking at his first press conference, RB Leipzig head coach Jesse Marsch discussed his opening few days at the Bundesliga club, the team’s potential and his philosophy.

“I’m really pleased to be the head coach of RB Leipzig,” said Marsch. “It’s a great honour for me and honestly has been a dream of mine to be able to one day coach RB Leipzig.

“I think it’s a perfect fit. I know the club, the fans, the team and the city. I had a great time here three years ago and I feel this wonderful atmosphere again. I’m really determined to get going.”

The 47-year-old praised the team’s mentality. “The team is simply incredible,” added Marsch. “We have a lot of good players here with great mentality, who all still have potential. I’m looking forward to developing this team. I want to use all of my experience to be a good leader for this team.

“I have a clear goal. I want to totally control the opposition intensely and aggressively in every game through our RB Leipzig DNA. Of course, that won’t always be possible, but we will do everything to achieve it. It’s important to me that we have a team here that plays for each other with all of its power and energy.”

Discussing his style, Marsch added: “I love working with young players. Part of being a good coach is building up good, close and strong relationships with the players. Human understanding is of utmost importance to me – only with that can I develop players.”
