FC Köln in advanced negotiations to sign Max Meyer on a free transfer

According to Sky Germany, FC Köln are in advanced negotiations to sign former Schalke 04 and Crystal Palace midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer.

Meyer is available on a free after both parties agreed on a mutual termination of the German’s contract after joining the Premier League club in 2018.

The 25-year-old played 56 games in all competitions for Crystal Palace, scoring two and creating three but made a name for himself during his time at Schalke.

Coming through their famed Knappenschmiede academy, Meyer played 192 games for the Royal Blues, scoring 22 and creating 23 goals in all competitions.

Meyer and now Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka developed an incredible understanding during the 2017/18 season, helping Schalke finish runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

The German will become FC Köln’s second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis on loan until the end of the season.
