Dayot Upamecano tops Bayern Munich’s shortlist

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is at the top of Bayern Munich’s shortlist, according to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The 22-year-old Frenchman would cost the Bundesliga side €42.5 million but are planning for the likely departure of David Alaba, who has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to join Spanish side Real Madrid in the summer.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed to Sport Bild that they are interested in signing Upamecano but that he wouldn’t be joining the Bundesliga champions this summer: “We will of course deal with it, not only with this player, but in principle on the positions where we want to do and have to do something.”

Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester United have all shown interest in signing Upamecano, who has played 23 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig this season and has become an integral player for Julian Nagelsmann.

With Alaba now unlikely to sign a contract extension, a central-defender is a priority position for Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.
