Timo Werner will remain at RB Leipzig in January despite release clause

Timo Werner and RB Leipzig won’t be separated this January despite the Germany international having a release clause worth at least €50 million, according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea but any potential transfer won’t be done until the end of the season, with neither club or Werner agreeing to a move mid-season.

Fellow Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich, Ligue 1 outfit, PSG and Premier League’s Liverpool have all shown an interest in signing Werner, who has scored 18 Bundesliga goals in 17 games.

Werner signed a contract extension in 2023 after being persuaded by Julian Nagelsmann to remain at the club, with a release clause inserted into his contract allowing the German to leave for a set fee.
