Rouven Schröder denies Jean-Philippe Mateta to Sevilla reports

Mainz 05 sporting director Rouven Schröder has denied rumours that 22-year-old forward Jean-Philippe Mateta will join Sevilla.

“Like every transfer window, there are rumours that make this period exciting for anyone interested. However, they rarely match and like this topic with Mateta and Sevilla, there won’t be a change in winter. He also has a long-term contract until 2023,” Schröder told Allgemeine Zeitung.

The Spanish club are looking for a replacement for Munas Dabbur, who joined Hoffenheim whilst reports suggest Javier Hernandez could also be departing Sevilla in January.

Mateta joined Mainz from Lyon in 2018 for €8m.
