Official | Schalke sack Manuel Baum, Huub Stevens appointed as interim coach

Schalke today announced the dismissal of head coach Manuel Baum with immediate effect, former coach Huub Stevens will take charge for the last two games of the season.

“The home game against Arminia Bielefeld is hugely important for our club. The disappointing performance against SC Freiburg showed us that the side requires new impetus to be successful in this game. We trust Huub Stevens and Mike Büskens to do exactly that,” said sporting director Jochen Schneider.

“We thank Manuel Baum for his tireless work and wish him both personally and professionally the best for the future.”

Schalke currently sit bottom of the Bundesliga, two points behind Mainz are yet to win a game this season, stretching their winless streak to 28 league games without a win.

Stevens takes charge of S04 for the fourth time. The Dutchman was head coach between 1996 and 2002 as well as 2011 and 2012. The now 67-year-old was also made interim coach in 2019.
