Official | Florian Wirtz signs new Bayer Leverkusen deal until 2023

Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contract of 17-year-old attacking-midfielder Florian Wirtz until June 2023, the Bundesliga side confirmed on Wednesday morning.

“Florian has already exceeded our already great expectations in his first year with the professionals,” said sporting director Rudi Völler.

“He’s self-confident in the Bundesliga and was impressive on the international stage in the Europa League. If he continues to work like this and pushes his development forward, Florian will certainly have a great career.”

Wirtz told the club’s official channels: “My quick integration into an absolutely top team was fantastic motivation. How the coaches and team welcomed me here and how the club management takes care of me is really impressive. I’m playing in a great team here and I firmly believe we can win something together.”

Wirtz joined the club from local rivals FC Köln in January 2020 and has since played 27 games in all competitions, scoring six and creating five for Bayer Leverkusen’s first team.
