Christian Groß to be appointed Schalke head coach

Schalke will appoint former Stuttgart head coach Christian Groß as their new head coach, according to several reliable outlets in Germany.

Kicker, Sky Germany, Sport Bild and regional outlet Ruhr Nachrichten report that the 66-year-old will be the next head coach of Schalke.

Groß worked with sporting director Jochen Schneider during their time at Schalke before the Swiss tactician went on to coach in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Per Kicker, Groß will be given a contract until the end of the season with a small salary but could be given a longer term contract depending on their Bundesliga fate.

Schalke are without 29 Bundesliga wins and are on their third coach of the season after David Wagner and Manuel Baum, former head coach Huub Stevens was appointed for the club’s remaining two games of 2020.

On Tuesday, Schalke put three past four tier side SSV Ulm in the DFB Pokal, their first win in all competitions since the beginning on November when they beat another fourth tier side, 1. FC Schweinfurt.
