Hertha Berlin to tie Vladimir Darida down to a new contract

Initial talks between Hertha BSC and 29-year-old midfielder Vladimir Darida have taken place regarding a contract extension, according to Bild.

The Czech Republic international has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2021 but has impressed with performances of late – setting a new league record against Augsburg, running 14.34km in a game.

“Vladi is a very important player for us,” said Hertha BSC head coach Bruno Labbadia. Darida almost left the club last summer for Fenerbahce, which was vetoed by sporting director Michael Preetz.

Darida has played 23 Bundesliga games, scoring three and creating five this season, forming an excellent partnership with Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Marko Grujić.
