Hansi Flick impressed with 17-year-old Jamal Musiala: “He has tremendous quality.”

Speaking after Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, head coach Hansi Flick praised the development of Jamal Musiala but insists he has to be careful not to burn him out.

“I have to be careful [with him],” said Flick. “He is very much valued by our players, has tremendous quality, is calm on the ball and is difficult to stop in one-on-one situations. He still have to improve physically. We can be very satisfied with him.”

The 17-year-old made his Bayern Munich debut at the end of the 2019/20 season and has impressed club bosses ever since. Musiala already has two league goals this season and was awarded his first start in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Born in Stuttgart, Musiala played for Southampton and Chelsea’s youth academies before joining Bayern Munich in January 2020. Impressive in training, the 17-year-old trained with the first team and has now established himself as a regular squad player.
