Gianni Infantino: “The recent demonstrations of players in Bundesliga matches would deserve an applause and not a punishment.”

FIFA has called for competition organisers to use common sense and in consideration the context surrounding the events.

This comes after the Weston McKennie (Schalke), Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) are being investigated by the DFB after leading tributes for George Floyd.

McKennie wore a customised “Justice for George” armband whilst Sancho and Hakimi unveiled “Justice for George Floyd” t-shirts. Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram also took a knee after scoring against Union Berlin.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino added: “For the avoidance of doubt, in a FIFA competition the recent demonstrations of players in Bundesliga matches would deserve an applause and not a punishment.

“We all must say no to racism and any form of discrimination. We must all say no to violence. Any form of violence.”
