Borussia Dortmund sack Lucien Favre

Borussia Dortmund have dismissed head coach Lucien Favre following a 5-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart.

The Bundesliga side are now three wins without a win in the league have have fallen to fifth, five points behind joint leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

After BVB’s defeat on Saturday, Favre labelled the performance a catastrophe: “It was a catastrophe.. too many big, big mistakes. We were very bad, it’s unacceptable.”

Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger reported on Saturday evening that Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke left the Westfalenstadion after a two-and-a-half hour meeting whilst both sporting director Michael Zorc and Carsten Cramer also left later.

Fave took charge from Thomas Tuchel in July 2018. The 63-year-old Swiss tactician has led Borussia Dortmund to 68 wins, 17 draws and 25 defeats – his side scoring 245 goals and conceded 139 in the process.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, assistant BVB coach Edin Terzić will take charge on an interim basis.
