Newly promoted FC Köln have announced the signing of 25-year-old Belgium international Birger Verstraete from KAA Gent for an undisclosed fee believed to be €3m.
Verstraete has signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga club and has become FC Köln’s fourth signing of the summer, alongside Julian Krahl, Kingsley Schindler and Kingsley Ehizibue.
“Birger is an intelligent, robust and hard-working player with an eye for a pass, who is at home in central midfield as a defensive player or in a box-to-box role. He was a key player in Gent and can immediately help us with his quality and experience, without being at the end of his development. We’re really pleased that he’s decided to join FC Köln,” said sporting director Armin Veh.
