2. Bundesliga club FC Köln have applied to FIFA for the eligibility of Anthony Modeste, who rejoined his former side after dissolving his contract with Tianjin Quanjian.
An official club statement released on Tuesday read: “Independent of the proceedings between Anthony Modeste and his former club, Tianjin Tianhai (previously Tianjin Quanjian), 1. FC Köln have applied for the striker’s eligibility to play.
The question of the eligibility is not related to the proceedings between Anthony Modeste and his former club, of which 1. FC Köln are not part of. Neither the FIFA verdict of December 2018 nor its rationale deny that the striker has become a contract-free player by the termination of his employment relationship with Tianjin Quanjian.”
