Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has apologised to Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mijat Gaćinović after his horror tackle on Sunday evening.
“He told me his ribs were badly bruised and that it hurts very, very much. He accepted my apology. I’m very, very sorry for the player. I didn’t want to meet him, I wanted to win the ball. The problem is that you don’t have much time to think. In that split second, you have to decide,” said Nübel.
The 23-year-old attempted to win a bouncing ball outside of the penalty area which resulted in Nübel catching Gaćinović studs up in the chest area, reminiscent of Toni Schumacher in 1982.
