Niko Kovač: “We would have won if the players had stuck to my plan.”

Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Benfica on Tuesday night, head coach Niko Kovač spoke about Saturday’s draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Uli Hoeneß’ statement following that draw and Bayern’s chances against the Portuguese club.

Niko Kovač on Bayern Munich’s plan vs Fortuna Düsseldorf: “We came into that game with a clear plan. Manuel Neuer also told me after the game that we would have won if the players had stuck to my plan. We did not implement that at the weekend.”

Kovač on Uli Hoeneß’ reaction: “In the end, it’s the truth. We concede goals that we should not concede. The most difficult part in football is attacking, defending is relatively easy. I agree with the statements of Uli Hoeneß.”

Kovač on Bayern Munich winning their group: “We need a draw tomorrow to advance but we want to win. Benfica need to win to keep their chances alive. They have a strong team, but we want the three points.”
