Ralf Rangnick reveals RB Leipzig almost signed Kylian Mbappé

RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has sensationally revealed how close the club came to signing Kylian Mbappé from AS Monaco in 2015.

Playing in the 2. Bundesliga at the time, the deal fell through due to uncertainty on who would become the next head coach following Alexander Zorniger’s resignation.

“The Kylian Mbappé deal was as good as sealed. The problem back then was that we just separated from coach Alexander Zorniger just after the 2015 winter break. We didn’t know who’s going be the coach. His father told me that if I’m sure I’ll be coaching the team he’ll put his trust over the boy with me. It was February and I still couldn’t give him an answer,” Rangnick told Bild.
