Speaking in an interview with French media outlet, L’Equipe, Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembélé confirms there were other clubs interested in signing him, but his heart was with Dortmund from early on.
“There was interest by other clubs but I didn’t want to withdraw from our early agreement,” said the 19-year-old. “Tuchel spoke to me early. I had only scored two or three goals for Rennes back then, but he told me that he wanted to sign me.”
“Tuchel always tells me to show what I’m capable of: my qualities, my dribblings. I enjoy the freedom I’m given. Apart from some defensive duties, I’m given free rein on the wing. It’s great to receive the same trust as a 25-year-old.
“I can’t say I’m surprised that I settled in quickly. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raphaël Guerreiro and the fantastic fans helped me a lot.”
