After moving swiftly in the transfer market, 1. FC Köln have completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic on loan until the end of the season.

“We are all happy to have Neven here and are excited for his time with FC. His years in Dortmund ca be defined by incredible success, as he was an integral part of their championship teams. He is coming off a difficult spell, but this allowed us the opportunity to work with him. We are convinced that Neven Subotic can become an important player for us in the next six months,” said FC Head Coach Peter Stöger, (via club’s official website).

“I am here with a smile on my face and am excited to take on this challenge with a new club. I am very grateful for the fantastic years at BVB. As an ambitious professional my focus starting today is 100% on 1. FC Köln. I want to play in the Bundesliga again. That is what spurs me,” added Subotic.

Peter Stöger and Jörg Schmadtke were close to bringing the Serbian international in during the summer, with Middlesbrough and Liverpool also linked, but the 28-year-old had to undergo rib surgery.

Like Holger Badstuber to Schalke 04, Subotic will move to Köln in a bid to prove his fitness, having not featured in the Bundesliga since MD24 during the 15/16 season.
