After Ömer Toprak confirmed [on Jan 12] he will leave Bayer Leverkusen for Borussia Dortmund, Rudi Völler spoke publicly for the first time on his departure, saying that Thomas Tuchel & Co. are likely to activate Toprak’s release clause in the summer.
The Turkey international is available for €12 million in the summer, whilst Sportbild report that he will sign a four-year deal worth €25m.
Toprak joined Leverkusen from Freiburg back in 2011 for just €3m, whilst he has gone to prove his worth in the side, making 190 appearances for Leverkusen in a all competitions.
With just Jonathan Tah and Aleksander Dragovic the remaining central defenders in the side, expect Roger Schmidt to strengthen once the deal goes through.
