Thomas Tuchel: Mario Götze criticism went too far

Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel believes that the criticism aimed at Mario Götze following his disappointing performances for Germany went a bit too far.

Götze is yet to feature in a competitive game for Dortmund since making his return to the club after a three year spell at Bayern. However, he did appear for Germany during the international break and was heavily panned by the fans and media for his performances.

Tuchel believes that anything the German playmaker does is under scrutiny, which is unfair.

“Mario will definitely be there for the game against Leipzig and is an option for the starting XI,” Tuchel told a press conference.

“We have noticed how much Mario is talked about and how everything he does is watched through a magnifying glass.

“One can imagine that attitude is not always benefiting the player. No-one can imagine how he feels under all this.

“How would you feel if someone is always looking at what you are doing and keeps asking you at how much per cent you are?

“I think the criticism went too far. Boundaries have been crossed.”
