Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti said that opponents FC Schalke were better than Bayern Munich in the first half but insisted that Bayern deserved to win the match.
“It was the difficult game against the difficult opponent that we expected,” Ancelotti told a press conference.
“Schalke caused us a lot of problems. It was a very even game for the opening 60 minutes. We stepped up the intensity after that and that eventually resulted in Lewandowski’s goal.
“Schalke were the better team in the first half, but we were the better side after the break and deserved the three points.”
Robert Lewandowski struck in the 81st minute while Joshua Kimmich scored in stoppage time as Bayern Munich left it late to seal all three points against FC Schalke.
