One to watch: Borja Mayoral, Wolfsburg

There is no doubt VfL Wolfsburg have acquired the services of one of the hottest goal scoring properties in Borja Mayoral on loan from Real Madrid this season. His goal scoring record at youth level for Madrid is nothing short of incredible, scoring 102 goals in just 77 games for their under 16’s and under 18’s.

The Spanish under 21 international has a reputation as a phenomenon in front of goal drawing praise from none other than his parent club manager and legend Zinedine Zidane who said: “he’s a striker who scores every time he has a shot.” High praise indeed.

This will come as music to Wolfsburg ears as Dieter Hecking’s side struggled for goals last term, scoring 25 goals less than in the 2014/15 season.

The young Spaniard’s idol is none other than “the king of Spain” Raul Gonzalez Blanco, who also made the switch from La Liga to the Bundesliga back in 2010. scoring 28 goals in 66 games for Schalke.

“I used to look up to Raul because he was always looking for loose balls and paying attention to everything that went on in the area,” said Mayoral on his idol.

If Mayoral reaches anywhere near the level of Raul then the Wolfsburg fans are in for a treat. An exciting young talent,  one of many about to grace the Bundesliga next season.

Should they hold on to Julian Draxler, Ricardo Rodriguez & Co. – with the acquisition of Polish international Jakub Blaszcykowski,  Wolfsburg’s challenge for a Champions League spot looks to be on track.
