Chelsea target Niklas Süle will stay at Hoffenheim

It has emerged that Chelsea failed in a bid to bring Hoffenheim defender Niklas Süle to Stamford Bridge last month, according to the player’s agent, who told Bild.

Süle, 21, won silver for Germany at the Olympic Games in Rio, before Chelsea offered €30 million to bring the defender to London.

Instead, Süle would prefer to remain at Hoffenheim for at least another season, to continue his development.

“Yes, there was interest,” Karlheinz Forster, Sule’s agent, told Bild. “The English have made it clear they’ll still be interested next year.”

“I’ve got my familiar environment here,” Sule explained. “That was and is very important for my development, and the base to put in constant performances at a high level.”
