Germany coach Joachim Löw has confirmed that both Benedikt Höwedes and Bernd Leno will start on Tuesday evening for their friendly against Italy.
The Schalke defender comes into the side to replace injured Jerome Boateng whilst Leno will be given his first start since their fixture against Slovakia in May.
“I’ve thought a lot about the players’ workload. None of them will return to their clubs overstrained,” Löw told reporters. “Every player is ready to play Bernd Leno will start in goal; Benedikt Höwedes will be alongside Mats Hummels.”
