Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund: Supercup Preview

Bayern Munich will look to end their four-year wait for the German Supercup on Sunday when the Bundesliga champions come up against Thomas Thuchel’s Borussia Dortmund side.

Borussia Dortmund have beaten Bayern Munich twice, whilst VfL Wolfsburg were the other team to defeat the league champions, whose last Supercup victory came in 2012 against Jürgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side.

Mario Götze’s return to Borussia Dortmund was the big talking point of the summer, which caused controversy amongst Dortmund supporters, whilst many booed Mats Hummels in his final home game at the Westfalenstadion ahead of his arrival to Munich.

Die Borussen have added to their squad, albeit young signings such as Marc Bartra, Raphaël Guerreiro and Ousmane Dembélé whilst Bayern Munich brought in Portugal international Renato Sanches.

What they said

Thomas Müller: “It’s a title that we’ve not won in the past three years and it’s always something special to play against Dortmund. For us and for the fans, it’s far more fun than just any old friendly match.”

Thomas Tuchel: “The moment Mario Götze wears our jersey is the moment where he gets the support of our fans. That’s how I expect and demand it. They [Bayern Munich] added two super players with Hummels and Sanches.”
