Köln reject second €45m Borussia Dortmund offer for Said El Mala

FC Köln have rejected an improved Borussia Dortmund offer for Germany international Said El Mala as BVB continue attempting to close the gap between themselves and the cathedral city club. Sky Germany reporter Patrick Berger reports that Dortmund’s second proposal contained a base transfer fee of just under €40m. Potential bonuses could have increased the overall package to approximately €45m.

Köln nevertheless rejected the offer and continue to demand at least €50m for the 19-year-old.

The new proposal represents a considerable improvement on Dortmund’s first attempt to sign El Mala. Reports differed over the construction of that opening bid. Sport Bild placed it at €34m plus €6m in bonuses, while Sky Germany reported approximately €26m guaranteed with another €16m in potential add-ons.

BVB have therefore significantly increased the guaranteed portion of their offer.

The player’s position could remain important should negotiations continue. El Mala has reportedly clearly signalled his willingness to join Dortmund, though the youngster has continued to conduct himself professionally and has not attempted to force a departure.

Whether Dortmund return with another improved offer remains to be seen.
