After news emerged that Noah Atubolu asked Freiburg not to travel to their training camp in Schruns, Austria, club bosses have since confirmed that the German goalkeeper is absent from the training camp squad, with discussions regarding his departure ongoing.
“We decided together with Noah that he would continue his training program in Freiburg at this stage,” said board member Jochen Saier, before their departure for Austria. “Personal discussions with clubs can be coordinated better from Freiburg than the training camp in Schruns.”
Atubolu has already turned down offers from Premier League newcomers Hull City and Coventry City in the hope of securing a move to a more established club, with Aston Villa and Bournemouth showing an interest.
The 24-year-old played 50 games across all competitions – recording 12 clean sheets – for Freiburg last season as the Breisgau club finished runners-up in the UEFA Europa League to Villa. Ahead of 2026/27, club bosses opted to sign Werder Bremen’s Mio Backhaus for €15m – allowing Atubolu to depart.
