The DFB have today confirmed the appointment of Jürgen Klopp – who replaces Julian Nagelsmann – as Germany head coach.
The appointment comes following an inquest after Germany’s exit in the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Paraguay in North America, resulting in Julian Nagelsmann stepping down from his role as national team head coach.
Following his departure, the DFB moved quickly to open negotiations with former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool head coach, Klopp, who was working as a pundit for MagentaTV in North America, alongside his role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer.
According to Bild, the DFB will not pay Red Bull a compensation fee to release Klopp from his contract and will instead donate €1m to “Wings for Life”, a non-profit foundation by Red Bull.
Klopp’s first game in charge of Germany will be in the UEFA Nations League against the Netherlands (24 September) and Greece (27 September).
