Fenerbahçe chase Serhou Guirassy as crucial release clause deadline approaches

Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy remains at the centre of a high-stakes transfer battle as Turkish giants Fenerbahçe step up their efforts to land the Guinean striker.

According to Sky Germany, Fenerbahçe have submitted an opening offer of €35m to test Dortmund’s resolve. However, the BVB hierarchy is standing firm, holding out for a minimum valuation of €40m and while the Istanbul-based club is expected to return with an improved, final bid in the coming days, indications suggest they will swiftly pivot to alternative targets like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins if Dortmund refuse to compromise.

Crucially, Guirassy himself does not currently prioritise a move to the Süper Lig. The 30-year-old forward is keen on exploring options in other top European leagues, with his management explicitly keeping their eyes open for Premier League interest.

Adding intense strategic drama to the negotiations is a specific exit clause embedded in Guirassy’s contract. Potential suitors can sign the forward for a fixed price of €40m, but this clause is only valid until July 15. Should the deadline pass without any club triggering it, Dortmund will regain full control over the player’s market value, forcing interested parties into entirely open-ended and likely more expensive transfer negotiations.

For Guirassy, this summer represents a definitive crossroads to secure one last blockbuster contract. Meanwhile, Dortmund face a critical dilemma: cash in on their marquee frontman to generate significant transfer revenue, or protect their attacking output ahead of a grueling domestic and European campaign. With the mid-July deadline rapidly approaching, the next few days will prove decisive.
