Stuttgart are scrambling to deal with the shock news that new designated No. 1 keeper Dennis Seimen will miss at least the first four matchdays of the forthcoming Bundesliga campaign. Seimen’s Bundesliga outfit confirmed that a hamstring injury will sideline him through, at a minimum, the end of September. Seimen was set to inherit the starting role from the departed Alexander Nübel.
Stuttgart do have an experienced backup keeper in the form of Fabian Bredlow. The 31-year-old, who often served as the squad’s preferred DFB Pokal starter, also has 37 Bundesliga appearances under his belt. Moreover, newly signed No. 3 Marius Funk collected eight German top flight appearances while playing for SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
Stuttgart chief personnel executive Fabian Wohlgemuth nevertheless signaled that he and the rest of the club administrative team were open to signing another keeper during the current summer transfer window. The news about Seimen certainly comes at the worst possible time.

“This is definitely bad news that he’ll be out through September,” the VfB Board Member for Sport told Kicker. “As is well known, our personnel planning for the goalkeeper position for the upcoming season was largely complete. Even without Dennis, we have a lot of quality in our goalkeeping squad. We’ll still need to discuss in the coming days whether we’ll be active on the transfer market again.“
