Werder Bremen consider selling Chelsea target Karim Coulibaly

Karim Coulibaly (18) has enjoyed a breakout season at Werder Bremen, making 26 Bundesliga appearances, which has caught the attention of Chelsea, among others.

BILD report that one option for the Green-Whites would be to sell their prized talent in the summer before loaning him back for the 2026/27 campaign. “These are conceivable options for players of Karim’s age,” Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz told the outlet. “I don’t want to rule it out entirely.”

Additionally reporting suggests that Bremen would ask for around €40m for Coulibaly, with the northern club open to selling the central defender to a Premier League club given that only Bayern Munich would be able to afford their valuation.

Fritz also confirmed that there is also some ‘movement’ but that nothing is concrete, while Newcastle United remain a serious contender to sign the German youth international. Furthermore, Chelsea’s managerial situation may affect their pursuit of Coulibaly, while concrete progress may not happen until after the World Cup.
