Two-match ban for Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix

Maxence Lacroix has today been hit with a two-match suspension by the DFB.

Wolfsburg’s French defender was sent off in their 2-0 Bundesliga win against Werder Bremen on Saturday, his third sending off this season. Lacroix brought down Bremen’s Romano Schmid in the 76th minute and on Wednesday, the DFB Sports Court placed a two-game ban on the 23-year-old for “unsportsmanlike conduct.”

Lacroix was also sent off for a second bookable offence in the reverse fixture on matchday 10, and then was shown a straight red card against Darmstadt on matchday 15.

As noted by Kicker, Lacroix has never played more than 30 games in a Bundesliga season because of suspensions. The central-defender’s red card on Saturday was his sixth since joining from Sochaux in 2020.

That of course means that he will miss Wolfsburg’s crucial games against Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig, giving new VfL head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl a selection headache.
