Toni Kroos doesn’t rule out return to German national team

Could Toni Kroos (34) make a return to the German national team?

Speaking at today’s press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League Round of 16 game against RB Leipzig, Kroos was asked about whether he would think about returning to the national team.

“I don’t know yet,” said Kroos. “I haven’t made a decision. It’s a possibility. We’ll see.”

It’s an idea that Julian Nagelsmann has thought about, and one that Germany’s head coach hasn’t ruled out either. While not categorically ruling out a return to the national side, BILD are reporting that Kroos can actually imagine a comeback. Playing at Euro 2024, hosted in Germany, is an attractive idea, while Kroos is enjoying a good season.

The 34-year-old has played 31 games across all competitions under Carlo Ancelotti this season, scoring one and creating seven. Kroos’ form also comes at a time when Germany’s midfield has received criticism, and so his potential return isn’t something that would be too far-fetched.

Nagelsmann confirmed that he had been in contact with Kroos and with upcoming matches against France (March 23) and the Netherlands (March 26), seeing Kroos in Nagelsmann’s squad announcement on March 14 could well be just what the national team need.
