Timo Werner on the verge of joining Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season

Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is on the verge of returning to the Premier League and joining Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season.

The clubs are negotiating the final details of the loan such as whether to include an option to buy but Werner is ready to leave Leipzig’s winter training camp once the green light has been given. Manchester United had also been linked with a move for Werner as they look for an additional striker option for the second half of the season but Spurs have beaten them to the signing.

Werner has struggled in his second season at Leipzig and has only scored twice in the Bundesliga. A loan move away for six months will potentially help him regain his confidence in front of goal and more importantly, earn his place back in the Germany squad for the Euros in the summer.

Despite the 27-year-old’s departure, Leipzig have plenty of striking options in Loïs Openda, Benjamin Seško, Yussuf Poulsen and Xavi Simons.
