The circus at Schalke continues with yet another player suspension

Once again, Schalke 04 find themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons. As reported by WAZ, 33-year-old midfielder Dominick Drexler has been suspended by the club for exhibiting poor behaviour after Schalke’s 1-1 draw away to Hannover on Sunday.

It is understood that Drexler launched a chocolate shake at the wall, with the ingredients then inadvertently spraying out towards his teammates. Despite apologising on Sunday evening, head coach Karel Geraerts has now informed Drexler that he will be training with the U23s for the foreseeable future.

This means that the midfielder will not play a role in the preparations for Schalke’s match against FC Nürnberg on Saturday evening. Drexler will join another recently suspended Schalke player in the form of Timo Baumgartl in the U23s as the problems at Schalke keep mounting.

With Die Königsblauen facing relegation to the 3. Liga this season, Geraerts has informed his squad that egos must be put aside to save the club. If Schalke are relegated from the 2. Bundesliga this season, then, as of now, the club will cease to exist in its current format due to the significant amount of debt burdening the club.
