RB Leipzig’s impending goalkeeper dilemma

With the arrival of Maarten Vandevoordt in the summer, RB Leipzig are set to face a dilemma with their goalkeeping choices, reports kicker.

Since recovering from his ACL injury earlier this season, Peter Gulacsi has regained his place as Leipizg’s number one.  Whilst in his absence Janis Blaswich played well enough to be called up to the German national team.

However, in 2022 Leipzig made a deal to sign Vandevoordt from Genk as their goalkeeper of the future meaning heading into this summer they have three goalkeepers all capable of being the starter. Sporting director Rouven Schröder gave insight into what may happen in the summer:“No decision has been made yet. But that is of course a very special constellation when you have three goalkeepers so extremely close to each other.”

It is suggested that the position of Leopold Zingerle who is the current third choice should not be affected. What is also suggested is that one of Gulacsi or Blaswich will leave in the summer. If Gulacsi leaves Vandevoordt will be number one, while if Blaswich leaves Gulacsi will keep his place as the number one with the Belgian as backup.

Due to his performances earlier in the season, there is likely a market for Blaswich. The 32-year-old’s contract at Leipzig is valid until 2026.
