Ralph Hasenhüttl is the favourite to replace Niko Kovac at Wolfsburg

Bild reports that Ralph Hasenhüttl is the favourite to replace Niko Kovac at Wolfsburg if the manager fails to turn the team’s form around.

If Wolfsburg draw, lose or perform poorly against Hoffenheim then it is likely that Wolfsburg will part ways with Kovac. The club have only won twice in the last 11 games and currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga.

Under Kovac, Wolfsburg experienced an uptick in form and performance last season, but this season they have struggled to build upon last season and have regressed.

Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer has reportedly already held initial talks at the end of last year with former Southampton and RB Leipzig manager Hasenhüttl over potentially taking over the team. The Austrian has been without a club since the end of 2022 having departed Southampton with the club in the relegation zone.

Hasenhüttl has Bundesliga experience having been in charge of both Leipzig and Ingolstadt during their only season in the top flight.
