Preview | Darmstadt vs Bayern Munich

Two teams from complete opposite ends of the Bundesliga table will face each other on Saturday as Bayern Munich travel to Darmstadt.

Bayern have a big opportunity to gain three points and potentially close the gap on Bayer Leverkusen at the top as they face a Darmstadt side that are currently sitting at the bottom of the table with just 13 points.

In the reverse fixture earlier on in the season, Thomas Tuchel’s side cruised past Darmstadt in an 8-0 victory.

Darmstadt also recently suffered a 6-0 defeat to Augsburg just two weeks ago and then lost 2-0 to RB Leipzig last week.

Torsten Lieberknecht’s side have extended their winless run to 18 games which is a club record.

Despite all these poor results they sit just three points behind Mainz in 17th place and five points behind Koln who currently occupy the relegation play off place.

Bayern Munich have recently returned to winning ways after their goalscoring spree against Mainz at the weekend and progressing to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

They still remain ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen in first place but are gaining good momentum in their chase.

They will be hoping that Leverkusen will be slipping up in a potential banana skin fixture away at Freiburg on Sunday.

Bayern have won eight of their last nine meetings with Darmstadt.

Team News

Darmstadt will remain without Marvin Mehlem, Fraser Hornby, Clemens Riedel, Fabian Nurnberger, Braydon Manu and Mathhias Bader due to injury whilst Fabian Holland will be assessed ahead of kick off.

Matej Magilca should be ok to play after suffering a minor injury against RB Leipzig.

For Bayern Munich, Kingsley Coman, Bouna Sarr and Tarek Buchmann all remain on the sidelines and Thomas Tuchel has also confirmed that Noussair Mazraoui will also be missing the game.

Tuchel also stated that it is likely that Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt will start again as the centre back pairing.
