Official | Tottenham Hotspur sign RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the loan signing of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Since returning for his second spell at Leipzig, the German international has failed to make a lasting impression on head coach Marco Rose. Werner struggled to cement his place in the starting 11 and has taken the option to move this winter in order to get regular playing time ahead of this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

The 27-year-old’s move to Spurs also includes an option-to-buy clause worth around €17m-€18m. What’s more, Werner’s agent, Mario Gomez, has stated that Spurs have assured the player regular playing time, which must have been a key factor in the deal. Before the deal, Werner had also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

This will also be Werner’s second spell in London. The forward previously spent two years at Chelsea, scoring 10 Premier League goals in 56 appearances.
