Official | Péter Gulácsi signs RB Leipzig contract extension until 2026

RB Leipzig have today announced the contract extension of Péter Gulácsi (34) until 2024. The Hungarian goalkeeper spent much of the 2023/24 season sidelined, but performed well upon his return with five clean sheets in 13 Bundesliga games this season.

Gulácsi, an incredible servant to the club, joined RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg in July 2015 for €3m. In 302 games across all competitions, the former Liverpool goalkeeper has kept 95 clean sheets.

“The contract extension was my biggest wish,” Gulácsi told the club’s website. “The path that the club and I have taken together since 2015 is a very special one. I have celebrated great successes with RB Leipzig, such as winning the DFB Pokal and the Supercup, but even in more difficult times I have always felt the support of the club and the people here. These moments were extraordinary. My goal is to continue the shared success story with out great fans behind me.”

But what does it mean for Janis Blaswich?

Janis Blaswich (33) deputised for Gulácsi following the latter’s ACL injury, and played 27 games across all competitions for Leipzig this season, keeping five clean sheets. But with the arrival of Maarten Vandevoordt (22) from Genk this summer, it’s likely that the Belgian will act as No. 2 to Gulácsi, meaning Blaswich may look to depart in search of playing time.
