Mikel Arteta a ‘big admirer’ of Thomas Tuchel

Mikel Arteta has the better head-to-head record against Thomas Tuchel, winning two of his three games against his opposite number. Those of course came between 2021 and 2022 when Tuchel was in charge of Chelsea and now, the duo meet in the Champions League quarter-final when Bayern Munich visit the Emirates.

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League on goal difference, level points with Liverpool and one point ahead of Manchester City. But it’s a completely different story for Bayern. They come into this game 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen after throwing away a 2-0 lead against Heidenheim at the weekend. Tuchel already conceded defeat in the Bundesliga title race following their Klassiker defeat against Borussia Dortmund, with their full focus now on the Champions League.

Despite Bayern’s position in the Bundesliga, Arteta had high praise for Tuchel during his pre-match press conference.

“They are top team. I am a big admirer of Thomas [Tuchel]. The way his teams set-up, the way they play, the way they transmit. I have learned a lot from him and looking at them they are a top team. We have prepared well and now we have to take our game where we want to, and if we do that we have a chance to win.”
