Mateu Morey starts for Borussia Dortmund for the first time since 2021

Edin Terzic announced 10 changes to his Borussia Dortmund side to face Augsburg at the Westfalenstadion this afternoon. The rotation was taken with Tuesday’s Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain in mind.

Among those changes was Mateu Morey. A free transfer from Barcelona U19s in 2019, the Spaniard is much loved around the club, despite playing a small number of games. Morey has featured just 30 times across all competitions, down to several injuries.

Morey’s previous start came against Werder Bremen in April 2021, although he did play two minutes against Freiburg in September. Since his last start, the Spanish defender has missed 108 games for Dortmund through various injuries, namely an ACL, while struggling to return to fitness.

There’s also a debut for Kjell-Arik Wätjen, while Marco Reus makes his first appearance for the club since announcing that he will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Borussia Dortmund squad vs Augsburg:

Kobel – Morey, Papadopoulos, Sule, Wolf – Nmecha, Wätjen – Malen, Reus, Bynoe-Gittens – Moukoko.
