Marco Reus to Borussia Mönchengladbach?

As reported by SportBild, Marco Reus is unlikely to extend his contract at Borussia Dortmund when it expires this June. However, a move to another Bundesliga club has not been ruled out.

Realistically, the 34-year-old would only move back to Borussia Mönchengladbach than any other top-half Bundesliga side. The World Cup winner nearly made a century of appearances for Gladbach between 2010 and 2013 before moving to BVB for just over €17m.

As a free agent, Gladbach would be able to finance the move for Reus, although a reduction in salary would still be needed. It’s unlikely that Reus would accept this from any other team in the Bundesliga but would make an expectation for Gladbach.

Though Reus’ playing time at BVB is decreasing each season, with Gladbach, he could play at the highest level possible, more regularly, and in a familiar environment.

Gladbach is currently looking for experienced offensive players who also possess key leadership qualities – two things that Reus would bring with him.

Gladbach’s world champion Wolfgang Kleff (77) is intrigued by the potential transfer: “If Reus wants to go to Gladbach, that would be extremely attractive. The most important thing is that it can be financed. He must not break the salary structure. With his experience, Reus would certainly be good for the club. My favorite player Rocco Reitz could learn a lot from him. Reus is someone who takes advantage of his scoring opportunities in an ice-cold manner – and unfortunately, we’re lacking when it comes to converting them.”
