Chelsea want to appoint Xabi Alonso immediately

As reported by Sport Zone, Chelsea are keen to bring Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabo Alonso to the club immediately.

It is understood that Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali admires the work done by the Spaniard at the Werkself and is, therefore, looking to appoint Alonso as the club’s new head coach.

After falling to defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, Chelsea now languish in the bottom half of the Premier League table, 14 points away from the top four. As for Leverkusen, a 2-0 win away to Darmstadt ensured they remained two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table as they look to take on Der Rekordmeister on Saturday evening.

However, Chelsea would have to face considerable competition for Alonso’s services. The 42-year-old is one of, if not the most sought-after, head coaches in Europe, with Bayern Munich and Liverpool also interested in luring him to their respective clubs.

Jürgen Klopp has already announced that he will depart Anfield at the end of the season, while Thomas Tuchel remains under pressure at Bayern as performances continue to underwhelm. Therefore, Alonso will undoubtedly weigh up his options in the summer before making a decision on his future.
