Borussia Dortmund worry about Jadon Sancho ahead of Heidenheim clash

Borussia Dortmund are worried about the fitness of Jadon Sancho (23) ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Heidenheim on Friday night.

Speaking to media on Wednesday, Edin Terzić confirmed that Sancho has picked up an injury: “Jadon currently has muscular problems in the adductor area, which is not surprising after a long break. We will wait and see how things develop over the next two days and decide at short notice whether he will travel with us to Heidenheim.”

Sancho has featured in all three Bundesliga games for Dortmund in 2024, creating two and has already surpassed the minutes he had played at Manchester United in the first half of the season.

The Englishman’s injury is the latest blow to an already depleted Dortmund squad. Terzić confirmed that Gregor Kobel, Julian Brandt and Marco Reus – who missed last weekend’s win against Bochum – have been unable to train as they are still struggling with an infection.

Sébastien Haller is still on international duty with the Ivory Coast while Felix Nmecha and Julien Duranville are working their way back from long-term injuries.

But there is some good news. Mats Hummels made his return last weekend but should be fit enough to start against Heidenheim, while Emre Can should also feature in the squad. Ramy Bensebaini has also returned to training after representing Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

One player that Dortmund will likely be without though is Gio Reyna. The American is currently in England to finalise a six-month loan to Nottingham Forest.
