Bayern Munich handed injury boost ahead of Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern Munich have been handed a timely boost ahead of this weekend’s top of the table clash against Bayer Leverkusen. Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano both returned to team training on Wednesday after being injured against Union Berlin on January 24.

Kimmich was sidelined with a shoulder injury, while Upamecano returns following a hamstring injury. It remains unclear as to whether they will feature against Leverkusen, but it’s certainly good news for Thomas Tuchel. According to Kicker, should Kimmich feel no further pain, then he should start against Leverkusen.

In the absence of Upamecano, Eric Dier started both games in central defence. Kim Min-jae will also be available for selection after South Korea were knocked out of the Asia Cup. The 27-year-old is expected to arrive in Munich on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to train on Thursday and Friday ahead of Saturday’s Topspiel.

Bad news for Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer

But it’s not all positive news coming out of Bayern. As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich could be without Manuel Neuer for the game against Leverkusen after the 37-year-old was sidelined during Tuesday’s training session with a minor knee problem and was unable to continue, casting considerable doubt regarding his availability for the weekend.
