Bayer Leverkusen set new club record

Bayer Leverkusen have set a new club record after beating Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso’s side made it 9 Bundesliga wins in a row, surpassing their previous record of 8 back in the 1999/2000 season.

It perfectly highlights the trajectory of B04 under Alonso, who are currently on the cusp of winning the club’s first-ever Bundesliga. It’s also fitting that it should happen in the week when Leverkusen booked their place in the DFB Pokal final, where they’ll meet 2.Bundesliga side FC Kaiserlaurtern.

Alonso’s side are playing some of the most attractive football in Europe this season and simply don’t know when it give up. There have been countless times when everyone thought their unbeaten run would end, but time after time, they’ve found a way to win.

Many have tipped Leverkusen to at least do the double this campaign but a treble is certainly not out of the question. Leverkusen host West Ham United next week in their first leg round of 16 match in the Europa League.

Domestically, Leverkusen should seal the title within the next two matchdays.
